Five years ago, I was trying to find something unique for my nephew’s first birthday. I was sitting in my basement, and I happened to look up at two wooden dowels on a shelf above my workbench. They reminded me of motorcycle forks.
At that moment the idea for Rockin Choppers was born. I worked for a month building that first Chopper. I had very little woodworking experience, an antique circular saw, a drill, a borrowed sander, a broken jig-saw, left over wood, and by the time I finished, a new vocabulary.
When everyone saw that first Chopper, they were amazed. I have to admit, I was pretty impressed with it myself. A couple of people told me I should build, and sell them. I thought that was crazy, this was just me giving my nephew something cool for his birthday. I had no intention of making a business out of it.
Three years later, I found myself thinking about my life, and decided I needed a change. So, I packed up the family, moved to the mountains of North Carolina, built a shop, and am now producing the second, and third generation of Choppers.
The new Choppers are built by hand like the first one, although I have invested in some real tools, and gotten to be a better woodworker. I’m just as impressed with them as I was with the first. Actually, don’t tell my nephew, but I like them better. Please go to the Choppers page to find out more..
